- Students working in STEM projects who need knowledge and skills set in AI and Design Thinking.
- Students want to enhance creativity and problem-solving skills.
Topic: Deliver Global and Social Innovation with Human-centred Design
Social innovation involves developing creative solutions to address social needs. Using relevant and global issues provides a powerful and engaging context for learning. For this workshop, 5 goals have been selected from the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, with one goal assigned to each group as the basis for developing their proposed solution.
What You Will Experience
- Master Design Thinking
This workshop introduces participants to Design Thinking, a human-centred, iterative problem-solving process used by leading innovators worldwide. It moves beyond traditional classroom learning by challenging students to identify real-world problems, understand the people affected, and create tangible solutions. The process typically involves key stages - Experience Hybrid-Intelligent (AI) Creativity
Participants will learn to integrate AI tools to generate ideas and images for the solution proposal during the Design Thinking ideation and prototype process. - Deliver Social Innovation with Human-centred Design
Social innovation involves developing creative solutions to address social needs. Using a relevant and complex local issue like Hong Kong's housing crisis provides a powerful and engaging context for learning.
Programme Highlights
- Empowering the 21st-century leadership competencies
Participants will engage with the global and social innovation process to broaden their horizons in collaboration and develop a human-centred problem-solving mindset and skills.
- Enhancing creativity through Hybrid-intelligent Design Thinking
Participants will learn the 21st-century leadership mindset and skill set – Design Thinking with the up-to-date technology – AI tools to enhance the effectiveness of creativity and problem solving.
- The programme will arrange a guest professional designer for the proposal consultation.
- End-of-the-workshop showcase will be arranged.
- Participants’ work will be posted on HKDI social media to highlight their achievements.
- Participants will be invited to tour HKDI knowledge centres under Atelier.

Edwin brings a distinguished background as a Creative and Art Director with organisations including TVE International, Ming Pao News, and Breakthrough Ltd. Building on this industry experience, he has dedicated over two decades to tertiary education with a specialised focus on human-centred design.
At HKDI, Edwin leads multiple design thinking initiatives, including the development of teaching and learning packages, an e-learning curriculum, and a train-the-trainer programme. He has trained over 300 academic staff across the VTC, contributing to the integration of design thinking into more than 100 Higher Diploma programmes, and was recognised with the Staff Excellence Award 2023 for his contributions to the VTC and the creative industry.
A sought-after speaker and trainer, Edwin has delivered over 1,000 hours of design thinking workshops to clients spanning the Civil Service Bureau, Hong Kong Police Force, Education Bureau, CUHK, and IxDA Hong Kong, among others. His sessions consistently receive "excellent" ratings in trainee feedback.
Edwin holds a Master's degree in Design and two Bachelor's degrees in Fine Art and Visual Arts. He is a certified design thinking practitioner through the LUMA Institute.
