About Centre of Design Services and Solutions
The Centre of Design Services and Solutions was established in 2019 as one of the Knowledge Centres at HKDI.
Its services comprise four areas:
i) Design Incubation
ii) e-Commerce
ii) Big Data Analysis
iv) Technology-driven In-store Experience.
The Centre is commissioned to serve as a knowledge exchange hub for academics and retailers locally, regionally and internationally, and to synergise latest developments, innovative ideas and best practices, with a vision to build business strategies and design solutions for future challenges.

CDSS Pop-up Jewellery Bazaar and Exhibition is the first interdisciplinary event organized by CDSS on jewellery design. Students and alumni from the Higher Diploma in Jewellery Design and Technology, the Department of Architecture, Interior and Product Design, HKDI; Professional Diploma in Jewellery Design, Professional Education and Engagement Centre (PEEC); Diploma of Vocational Education in Jewellery Arts and Design, Pro-Act Training and Development Centre (Jewellery),HKDI; and BA(Honours) Jewellery, Materials and Design, Sheffield Hallam University, UK/SHAPE(VTC) will be showcasing their creative jewellery designs.
The event includes the exhibition, meet-with-public live streaming, and product retailing.
The exhibition had be held in CDSS between May 6 and May 20, 2022. On May 6, an exciting live-streaming event had be organized by the students from the Higher Diploma in Fashion Branding and Buying.
The public could be able to meet our jewellery design new force live to learn more about their design concepts. The live streaming was an interesting thematic event for the audiences to select a unique gift from the designersʼ collection for their dearest mother.
These collections had to be physically showcased in CDSS, virtually exhibited through the CDSS website, and sold online. Audiences from the public may also follow CDSS's Facebook and IG to view the collections and the latest promotions.

Endløs is originated from the meaning Eternity and Endless. We are from the HD Jewellery Design and Technology programme. We collaborated with @thepearlfarm to use Pearls in our design. We would like to introduce to you the beauty of pearls.
The Pearl Farm is a local pearl accessory brand established in 1995. They are on a mission to promote Hong Kong pearls in collaboration with local designers. The Pearl Farm transformed the natural gemstone into an experience, where people of all ages would unveil the secrets of pearls and learn about how pearls are related to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The design “YUEN YUENG” expresses the concept of integrated wedding culture in Hong Kong with the meaning of “Not Mixed But Integrated”.
The main body uses the method of Lost-Wax Casting to create a wax mould, in the pattern of lace and embroidery, by casting with silver and copper. The embedded blue and red colour gemstones embrace the Chinese and Western wedding elements into the design.

OBS Studio is software designed for capturing, compositing, encoding, recording, and streaming video content efficiently and is one of the best software for those users new to live-streaming. During the period of the event of “CDSS Jewellery Pop-up Bazaar and Exhibition” last month, it was a pleasure to have invite Tee Building marketing expert Alvis Ng to demonstrate to students and staff of HKDI to show how to use OBS at CDSS, and at the same time contact teaching activities through MS Teams. “Brand Your Own Bag” Workshop 2021


“Brand Your Own Bag” Workshop was successfully completed last Saturday (Nov20) at “The Stage” in IVE, Kwun Tong.
Using the sticker hot stamping technique, the "Brand Your Own Bag" workshop hopes to bring unique experiences to students and tell that Design can be a sustainable practice to customize a business or a brand.
There were more than 200 participants that day. All the participants, including students, teachers, principal and guests, had a wonderful afternoon.
Each of the tote bag was a unique creation by the participant.
We are glad that all participants enjoyed themselves and are pleased with the branded bags they designed and produced!

CDSS [Step-In-Style] Design For Community Competition


CDSS partnered with 11 shops in Sham Shui Po to organize the first “Step In Style: Design for Community Competition” (the Competition). A wide range of creative products were designed by 200 students with the aim to increase the competitiveness of the collaborated shops through raising the brand image and customer experience. The competition, on the other hand, also aims to incubate the creative thinking and design skills of the students and to provide them with actual working experience.
Organized by The Centre of Design Services and Solutions (CDSS), one of the design incubation hub of HKDI, the Competition was opened to groups and individuals of all current students from HKDI and IVE/KT. Each participating team was pair up with a collaborated shop, ranging from

Upcycling Capsule Collection "THE POWER OF WOMEN & THE ICONIC JACKET"
Content: An upcycling capsule collection will be designed by Johanna Ho with Green Ladies garments. Concept of pop up to be in line with Green Ladies’ concept of “I SECOND – REUSE, RESTYLE & EMPOWERMENT” to promoting eco-friendly life-style and women empowerment.
The collection will base on the Iconic Jacket design theme, students will utilize different ways or materials to re-style the selected collection from Green Ladies.

CDSS collaborated with Advance Denim Limited (Advance Denim) to design and produce Mini Denim Bag for the CDSS Collection 2021.
A series of graphic design about Hong Kong Culture Elements will be launched for online order soon.
About “CarePlus+C”:
Advance Denim has developed a new antibacterial denim, named “CarePlus+C”, that uses Chitin as its active ingredient. Chitin is a polymer that is extracted from marine algae and shells. It prevents the growth of bacterial and fungal microorganisms when applied on textile products.

CDSS invited the alumni of Diploma of Foundation Studies (Design) of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Kwun Tong) to collaborate in the design theme "Cultural Elements of Hong Kong" which also resulted in the creation of a collection of products to be put onto the market.
The Reinvention of Authentic Culture is one of the design projects from the Diploma of Foundation Studies (Design). Students employed the theme of “Cultural Elements of Hong Kong” through the use of mind mapping for data collection and research. Student TOBITA Syouei decided to introduce the Food Stalls Card Game as the theme where he adapted creative thinking, visual communication skills and various design software tools learned in the course to develop and create a unique design for the Creative Studio Project, which also serves as his preparation for further studies in the future.

With a large number of food illustrations and two different gameplay methods,
players can easily recognize the local food stalls. It is a game experience suitable for all ages.

PersonTees Limited Company has a smart device and platform selling crossover and custom-made t-shirt. A series of capsule collection will be developed with HKDI students. Through this programme, students will participate from T-shirt design concept, production, promotion and delivery product to end user.

A mobile application designed by students is being implemented. “WardrobeConnect” (WC) won Outstanding Award in the Innovation x Application 2.0 Competition. WC is an e-tailing innovation project with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology for scanning, recording and sorting fashion items for personal virtual wardrobe. Based on the framework of WC, CDSS developing an app for the retail environment to enhance the shopping experience and facilitate the big data on customer shopping behaviours for brand future development.
