Creative Textile & Design Series

Discover the joy of creation while caring for the planet. This workshop series invites young creatives to explore sustainable textile art through upcycling and hands-on design. Using fabric leftovers and recycled materials, participants will develop artistic skills, environmental awareness, and a designer’s mindset.
The programme is divided into two age-appropriate streams:
- Junior (primary 4 - 6)
- Senior (secondary 1 - 6)
A unique opportunity to experience professional design education at HKDI while building a strong foundation for future creative studies.
What You Will Experience
- A 15-minute HKDI Creative Mini-Tour — step into professional design studios, explore tools and materials, and get inspired before creating.
- Four hands-on workshops focused on sustainable textile design and fashion.
- Access to HKDI’s state-of-the-art Fashion Studios, Fashion Archive, and Digital Media Labs.
- Learn zero-waste principles, fabric manipulation, and circular design thinking.
- Work with real designers’ tools in a professional creative environment.
Highlights of Each Workshop
Personalized Accessories & Brooches
Junior: Design and hand-sew fun, wearable brooches or backpack charms with names and simple embroidery.
Senior: Create statement accessories and patches using advanced embroidery and collage techniques.
Grid & Thread: Upcycled Weaving
Junior: Turn old t-shirts into vibrant woven coasters through basic weaving techniques.
Senior: Transform a mesh tote bag into a custom, high-fashion accessory with geometric woven patterns.
"Mix-and-Match" Textile Lookbook
Junior: Build an interactive “Exquisite Corpse” fashion flipbook with fabric collage.
Senior: Design a professional interactive Capsule Collection Lookbook with fabric swatches and digital presentation.
Your Takeaways: Embroidery Brooches, Weaving Coaster/Bag, and Collage Lookbook
Certified Achievement: Receive an HKDI certificate.
