Twice nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Art Direction (Papa, The Sparring Partner), Ida Mak reconstructs cinematic narrative tension through meticulously crafted spatial details, leveraging her acute aesthetic vision and cross-disciplinary design expertise. A graduate of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (BA in The School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts, major in Stage and Costume Design, 2012), she established a multifaceted narrative foundation through early career work in theatre and exhibition design before transitioning to film.
Her filmography spans significant commercial productions including:
- Son of the Neon light (Selected for the 78th Cannes Film Festival "Midnight Screening")
- Raging Fire 2 (Hong Kong Film Award Best Picture nominee)
- Shock Wave 2 (Hong Kong Film Award winner for Best Visual Effects)
- Mad Fate (Official Selection, Berlinale Encounters)
Transcending genre films and arthouse cinema, Mak specializes in deepening character psychology through environmental semiotics, creating socially metaphorical immersive spaces. Recently, she actively collaborates with emerging directors to push visual boundaries, including:
- Suspense thriller Unforgivable Sin (dir. Wong Pak Kei)
