Student Award

HKDI student Lau Tsz Chun Jordan from Higher Diploma in Product Design won the “Red Dot: Best of the Best” at the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2019. In a rapidly ageing society, an increasing number of people are afflicted with physical ailments that directly limit their mobility in traversing the urban environment. Normally, “stick-chairs” in the market are mainly focused on functions. Thus, they are bulky, often highlighting the users’ physical problems and make them feel stigmatized, further discouraging usage in public. To encourage users to be more involved in society, Jordan designed Tri Cane to balance users’ physical needs and their image when using it in public space. Tri Cane’s understated appearance and practical function will enhance the independence of its users, as an assistive device that doubles as a lifestyle product, designed with an intuitive structure for easy operation. HKDI is proud of our design talents who won major awards in recent iconic international design competitions. Their outstanding performances demonstrate their talent and creativity.
