An information and interface design programme that explores various dimensions of Information and Interface Design. Taught by Marcelo Duhalde, Senior Infographic Designer of SCMP Hong Kong and seasoned media designer with extensive experience designing for the main media around the world, this programme would keep you abreast of the latest trends and needs of the information design industry, with specific focus on user-centred infographic storytelling and data visualisation.

Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the Professional Certificate in Information and Interface Design, learners are expected to be able to:

  • Organize information creatively in a user-friendly format with appropriate classification;
  • Integrate the principles of user-centered design processes and practical techniques for effective user interface design; and
  • Conduct effective user testing to identify user’s needs and desires.

Lecturer: Marcelo Duhalde

Marcelo Duhalde is an information designer and illustrator who started his career in the mid 90’s in Chile, working for the main media. From 2010 to 2015 he worked for the design team of the Times of Oman and Al Shabiba newspapers in the Sultanate of Oman. Since August 2016 he works as Senior infographic designer at the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong.
Throughout his career he has won more than 100 awards in various events such as SND Best of News Design, Malofiej, Wan Ifra Asian Digital Media Awards, SOPA, Hong Kong News Awards, Kantar Information is Beautiful and others. His work has been published in several books, magazines, and infographic and data visualization websites in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
He has been an infographic and information design lecturer in schools of design and journalism in Chilean Universities.

Entry Requirements

Basic Qualification
    - Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent; or
    - Five HKCEE subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent; or
    - Completion of a QF Level 3 programme that is deemed acceptable to the respective Programme Board; or
    - Relevant RPL qualification(s) at QF Level 3 or above AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral
      or written; or
    - Other relevant verifiable prior learning and/or work experience that is/are deemed appropriate by respective
      Programme Board AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral or written.

(b) Applicants are required to have at least 1 year relevant working experience.
(c) Basic knowledge of graphic communication is preferred.
(d) An interview and/or portfolio review may also be required on need basis.

Mature Applicants
Mature applicants, i.e. those aged 21 or above with at least two years’ relevant working experience, can be admitted. Where appropriate, the applicant may be required to pass an entrance assessment, which can be in an oral and/or written form.
