Programme Objectives

  • equip students with profession-specific knowledge and tailoring skills for signature costume pieces in building up costume play styling of total look imagery; and
  • nurture students with costume making techniques, professional working and learning attitude, and to further develop costume design portfolio to be applied in different commercial contexts.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the programme, learners will be able to:

  • work effectively as a professional costume maker with application of sewing equipment and tailoring techniques acquired in the programme; and
  • apply creative design strategic approaches for costume development for cosplay styling, which is to be used in commercial contexts.

Lecturer: Connie Yeung

With 10 years' of experience in both costume and fashion fields, Connie is specialized in pattern cutting, dress making, embroidery, fitting and alteration. She has been the Couturier in Ralph & Russo, a renowned London based Haute Couture House. She has made dresses for Paris Haute Couture Week, and a list of celebrity, for example, Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé and Fan Bing Bing. She is currently the lecturer in The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi).

Entry Requirements

Basic Qualification

  • Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent; or
  • Five HKCEE subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent; or
  • Completion of a QF Level 3 programme that is deemed acceptable to the respective Programme Board; or
  • Relevant RPL qualification(s) at QF Level 3 or above AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral or written; or
  • Other relevant verifiable prior learning and/or work experience that is/are deemed appropriate by respective Programme Board AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral or written.

(b)   Applicants are required to have at least 1 year relevant working experience.
(c)   Basic knowledge of fashion image styling is preferred.
(d)   An interview may also be required on need basis.

Mature Applicants
Mature applicants, i.e. those aged 21 or above with at least two years’ relevant working experience, can be admitted. Where appropriate, the applicant may be required to pass an entrance assessment, which can be in an oral and/or written form.
