Programme Objectives
- nurture learners with professional skills in research and analysis for the understanding of comic art and character design; 
- provide learners the ability to integrate diverse illustration, comic art and character design skills and elements to develop an original style; and 
- equip learners with profession-specific knowledge, skills and techniques of comic art and character design which meet the requirement of the creative industries.

Expected Learning Outcome
Upon completion of the programme, learners will be able to:
- employ different comic art styles and visualization theories for effective visual storytelling;
- analyse conventional and contemporary approaches to develop an inventive personal style in comic art and character design; and
- identify the market trends and business opportunities of comic art and character design for the development of professoinal portfolio.


Lecturer:

    Kian Cheung
Kian, a young local artist, works mainly targeted to the young market, including comics, illustration, character design, and multimedia works such as animation. Over the years, her works have been exhibited in different places, and won several awards in different competition including HK Mobile Film Festival, HK International Film and Video Award, King Bonn International New Media Shorts, etc. The style of her works are fresh, colourful, cute and full of energy.
    Johnee Lau
Johnee, a Hong Kong illustrator with ugly-cutie style. He likes using negative, disgusting visual element but transforming them into cutie characters to explore their possibilities to be favourable. He created online episode animation such as Galaman, Kimogimon and illustration series, Faster Piece. He is drawing faster piece in local markets, exhibitions and social media Live to illustrate audience’s comments.

Entry Requirement

Basic Qualification:
(a)
- Five HKDSE subjects at Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent; or
- Five HKCEE subjects at Grade E / Level 2 or above, including English and Chinese Languages, or equivalent; or
- Completion of a QF Level 3 programme that is deemed acceptable to the respective Programme Board; or
- Relevant RPL qualification(s) at QF Level 3 or above AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral or written; or
- Other relevant verifiable prior learning and/or work experience that is/are deemed appropriate by respective Programme Board AND a pass in an entrance assessment, which can be either oral or written.
(b) Applicants are required to have at least 1 year relevant working experience.
(c) Basic knowledge of comic art, drawing and painting is highly preferred.
(d) An interview may also be required on need basis. 

Mature Applicants:
Mature applicants, i.e. those aged 21 or above with at least two years’ relevant working experience, may be admitted.  Where appropriate, the applicant may be required to pass an entrance assessment, which can be in an oral and/or written form.
