Seven teams from HKDI Higher Diploma in Architectural Design Programme shine in the Innovative Design Competition 2020-21 held by Urban Renewal Authorities. Participants were required to design a home installation, public facilities or renovate building space based on the old area of To Kwa Wan, to properly manage and improve the public health level of the aging district, also include smart living elements and sustainable development concepts.

With the outstanding performance, TSOI Yiu Yiu and TSE Wai Ling have won the Gold Award, Best Practical Application Award and Most Creative Design Award with the design “Open Rice La!”. Their design concept is based on the tremendous negative impact caused by the COVID-19 to the restaurants. Restaurants had to adapt with undesirable temporary tools which were not aesthetically pleasing and created physical barriers between people. In order to help the restaurants to achieve the epidemic preventive effects with the aesthetically pleasing tools, students develop this new tool.
