The 46th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva

Two CIMT projects have awarded with a Gold Medal and a Silver Medal under the classification of “Clothing-Textiles-Machines and Accessories” in the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva held from 11 Apr to 15 Apr 2018.

It is the first time CIMT/ HKDI participated in this large-scaled international invention exhibition, with 1,000 new inventions and products, 700 exhibitors from 40 countries, and 57,000 visitors from all over the world. Other Hong Kong delegates include HKU, CUHK, HKBU, PolyU, EdU, HKPC, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Ltd (NAMI), etc.

Details of the winning entries are briefly described as below:

1.Gold Medal

“Innovative Foot Biomechanics for Enhancing Design and Comfort of Ladies’ High-heeled Footwear Design”

The project aims to transfer state-of-the art foot biomechanics engineering technologies to the rapid growing field of fashion footwear for optimal fit and comfort, obtain precise 3D foot anthropometry data and plantar pressure evaluation, and transform magnetorheological fluid into the insole design, thus offering flexible cushioning and stability support in response to applied mechanical stress, enhance the design and overall comfort of high-heeled shoes to the wearers. The project was supported by ITC’s Innovation & Technology Fund, accomplished in late 2015, and the team is now working on product refinement and patent application.

Principal Investigator: Ms. Elita Lam (HKDI), Co-investigator: Dr. Yick Kit-lun (PolyU) and Dr. Sun Pui-Ng (PolyU HKCC), Project Advisor: Dr. Jim Luk (THEi), Research Associate: Ms. Jovia Lai (HKDI)

2.Silver Medal

“3D Heat Conductive Knee Sleeves”

The project aims to develop a smart knitted knee sleeve using conductive yarn to achieve heat therapy function with fashionable appearances. The design is also extended to 3D product ergonomics design, compression knitting structures for muscle support, power supply interlace and temperature control.

Principal Investigator: Ms. Elita Lam (HKDI), Project Advisor: Dr. Jim Luk (THEi), Research Associate: Ms. Jovia Lai (HKDI), Project Designer: Ms. Tina Ho (HKDI/FID Alumni), Industry collaborative partner: Fung Fat Knitting Manufacturing Ltd.
