EMERGING DESIGN TALENTS 2018: CHANCE
About the Event:
Emerging Design Talents, the annual design exhibition organised by
the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and IVE (Lee Wai Lee),
offers a platform for students to showcase their best work.
The approximately 2-week event includes large scale shows such as the New Fashion Force and The Revolutionary Image of the New Generation where Fashion and Fashion Image students showcase their collections in catwalk shows, while the music show Music in Motion and Dai Lung Fung- Film Show will feature a live music performance and short films produced by students from Music and Film & TV programmes. Shows are open for RSVP, free admission. A first-ever design show Starry Night Jewellery & Accessory Catwalk Show will be held at 1881 Heritage to present works from Jewellery and Image Product Design.
In addition, a fine selection of student works from various design disciplines will be on exhibit, open to public daily from 10am to 8pm, which include Visual Arts and Culture, Advertising Design, Creative Media, Digital Music and Media, Film and Television, Publication Design and Print Media, Transmedia, Visual Communication, Fashion Branding and Buying, Fashion Design, Fashion Image Design, Architectural Design, Furniture and Lifestyle Product Design, Jewellery and Image Product Design, Jewellery Design and Technology, Landscape Architecture, Product Design, Interior Design, Exhibition Design, Stage and Set Design, Information Technology and etc.

The Revolutionary Image of the New Generation

The HKDI Image Show features a series of wearable artworks and revolutionary make-up styling, hair styling, fashion styling and stage costume with stunning effects. The show demonstrates a new scene of image design for fashion, film and performing arts.

Dai Lung Fung – Film Show 2018 is the event-of-the-year for Film and TV Programme, where six most remarkable showpieces selected from graduation project will be presented to guests of honour of the night, including renowned professionals from film, broadcasting and creative industries. The Star Night provides a platform for Film and TV graduates to showcase their uniqueness, creativity and passion at their best.

Music in Motion 2018

"Music in Motion 2018" is an annual original live music show of HKDI "Higher Diploma in Digital Music and Media" and Coventry University "BSc. (Hons) Music Technology" graduates. As always, the graduates will be sharing all the on-stage and back-stage tasks, together with live music performance of their original songs. This year, we are honored to have the VTC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus directed by Dr. Henry Shek to play the micro-film scores composed by graduates. Moreover, the alumni band Zpecial, who has aroused great attention in the local music scene, will perform the finale of the concert. "Music in Motion 2018" has a wide range of music genres, and suitable for all music lovers.

New Fashion Force

The New Fashion Force is one of the highlights of the event, featuring 30 best fashion and accessories collections selected from more than 200 fashion design graduates of different specialisms (Knitwear, Accessories and Textiles). The show aims to nourish young new talents and serves as a platform for our graduates to showcase their creative talent to the industry.

HKDI X BCU LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE ANNUAL SHOW 2018 presents the best student works from the HKDI Landscape Architecture Programme and the top-up BA(HONS) Landscape Architecture Degree. The blend of the old and the new results in imagination and innovation, but not settlement. Settled minds and preconceived frameworks will be re-stimulated by [FORM / SHIFT].
HKDI’s Higher Diploma in Architectural Design commenced in Autumn 2012, followed by the commencement of the collaborative top up degree programme in BA (Hon) Architecture offered by the University of Lincoln (UOL) in 2014. [FORM / SHIFT] is an exhibition to showcase a full spectrum of the student design works, which turns a new page in the architectural education and design scene of Hong Kong. [FORM / SHIFT] will be a platform for the general public to meet a group of imaginative, creative and passionate emerging architects.

Guided Tours for Secondary Schools
Specially arranged guided tours will be offered to secondary school students on 14, 15, 19 to 22 June, at 11am/ 1.30pm/ 2.30pm and 3.30pm. The tour will be 1-hour long through all disciplines' exhibitions. Interested parties can apply as groups by replying the form sent to career masters, or by emailing to eao-dilwl@vtc.edu.hk.
Adverse Weather Arrangement
When Typhoon Signal No 8 or above or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued or in force, the programmes of "Emerging Design Talents 2017" will be cancelled. When Typhoon Signal is lowered to No 3 or below or Rainstorm Warning Signal is lowered to Amber or below before 6pm, respective programmes will be resumed in 2 hours, subject to the latest announcement on this official website.
