Fashion & Image Design

The Department of Fashion and Image Design (FID), in collaboration with industry professionals, has developed a range of extensive and practical programmes including Fashion Design, Fashion Design Menswear, Fashion Image Design, Fashion Branding and Buying, Fashion Media Design and Costume Design for Performance to meet the demands of this fast-paced, dynamic global industry. Our staff team has an impressive and diverse wealth of specialist skills, industrial and academic experience, creative talent, professionalism and commitment. Apart from having strong links with local industries, where industry practitioners regularly share their expertise, guidance and advice with us, FID has strong educational links with other international university partners and educational institutions, including articulation to BA(Hons) degree programmes. 01 Costume Designfor Performance

Programme code DE114306

To cope with the ever-changing economic environmental and business development of the fashion and image design industry, this programme is designed to fill the talent demand of the rigorous and demanding industries in the film, television, entertainment and show business sectors. The programme aims to nurture graduates and develop character and fashion designers in accordance with performance requirements to enter the fashion and entertainment market.

02 Fashion Brandingand Buying

Programme code DE114304

This programme is designed to enable students to work in the different areas of fashion branding and buying. Emphasis is placed on enriching students’ international exposure. Students find the programme both practical and creative and are subjected to different learning experiences such as lectures, tutorials, projects, visits, competitions and industrial attachment. Broad knowledge and skills in fashion branding and marketing, trend analysis, global business environment, design, materials and technology form the core components of the programme, and students can select a specific study scope from (1) branding and communications, (2) product development and sourcing, (3) buying and retail management or (4) visual merchandising.

This programme also emphasises generic, language and communication training; whole-person development; and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

03 FashionDesign

Programme code DE124301

This programme is designed to enable students to work in the fashion design and product development field. Students will find the programme both practical and creative, learning through fashion shows, live projects, design competitions and an international exchange programme and working with visiting practitioners and organisations from fashion and related industries. Students will be expected to acquire design concept generation, pattern-making and fashion product sewing techniques. The Knitwear Design and Accessories Design streams provide students with a more comprehensive learning scope required by the market.

This programme emphasises generic, language and communication training; whole-person development; and workplace experience to better prepare students for further studies and employment after graduation.

04 Fashion DesignMenswear

This programme explores the creative process of menswear design from research to realization and the production of contemporary fashion menswear. It encompasses style and sensibility through innovative cutting, fabric sourcing, proportion and construction in both structured and unstructured clothing, and operates across a range of market levels with an international perspective.

The programme aims to develop young creative talents who plan to become professional fashion designers in the menswear design field. Students will find the programme both practical and creative, learning through fashion shows, design competitions, master classes, industry-led projects and workplace attachment. Students will be equipped with suitable design and technical proficiency in their creation of an innovative and individual menswear collection.

05 Fashion ImageDesign

Image design has been accepted as a new profession specialising in make-up, hair styling, fashion styling and fashion photography to create the best and most appropriate images and styling for individuals, brands and corporations. This programme aims to provide graduates with systematic and professional training to enter the fashion image design; advertising; film, television and media; and costume/art direction industries.

The Fashion Media Design programme implements a wide range of activities across the communication spectrum, such as media strategy, journalism, social media, blogging for business and Web and app design, to achieve a modern and well-rounded fashion communication solution.

This programme is designed to enable students to work in the different areas of fashion media design. It emphasises the enrichment of students’ international exposure. Students will find the programme both practical and creative through different learning experiences such as lectures, tutorials, projects, visits, competitions and industrial attachment. Broad knowledge and skills in fashion film, fashion journalism, new media strategies, social media and blogging for business form the core components of the programme.
