Apm Design Fiesta

This summer, HKDI collaborated with apm shopping mall to organise an event – apm Design Fiesta. HKDI students and alumni are invited to showcase their works in the form of HKDI Gallery and live art performance. In addition, bazaars and workshops will be held for guests to have a taste of designing personalised products.

Live Art Performance
To showcase students’ creativity, 60 students from Higher Diploma of Visual Communication were invited to propose their unique design for wall painting. Finally, 3 groups of students’ works are selected for on-site painting on designated walls on Level 3, 4 and 6 in apm on 6 August.

Design Fiesta Bazaar
13 groups of HKDI students, graduates and alumni are invited to showcase and sell their products to the public, including ANGUS TSUI (a fashion design brand), WEWEARWOOD (a life styling brand) and Circo Loop (an accessory and life styling brand). Some of the design concepts behind promote organic life style and upcycling to create a sustainable design trend.

Design Fiesta Gallery - made in Hong Kong
This gallery serves as a platform to display outstanding student works with the theme of made in Hong Kong. Through different forms of designs, HKDI students display various local characteristics aspects of Hong Kong. Pang Chai, a market located in Sham Shui Po with 40-year history, offers an assortment of a wide variety of fabrics to local fashion designers and students. The fashion design students are going to showcase their art installation in the exhibition using materials bought from the market. Besides, the students from HD in Publication Design and Print Media will showcase their project《放大香港 Enlarge Hong Kong》. By using different kinds of printing techniques and unlimited creativity, a giant book is printed to enlarge Hong Kong and show the details of each district. In addition, the gallery also features outstanding works from the Diploma of Foundation studies students who took the opportunity to rethink the forms and meanings of bowls by blending design and ceramics with aspects of local culture.

“Do Art Yourself” Workshop
Array of design workshops will be held for visitors to have a taste of designing personalised products, including upcycling accessory workshop, “Instant animated GIF advertising on Facebook” workshop, hand-made jewellery workshop, and Patchwork Faces in Bag Workshop led by lecturers and alumni.
